12 Days Safari Tanzania With Kilimanjaro Joy Tours
This 12 days safari Tanzania is Photograph the Spectacle of Predator and Prey as the Vast Herds Traverse the Endless Plains. Among the world’s epic wildlife events, few can match Tanzania’s Great Migration. And for nature photographers, there is simply nothing like being in the midst of hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebra as they make their annual trek over the Serengeti Plain in pursuit of new grass. Agile predators steal behind, poised to seize the young and the weak that trail the great herds. To truly capture the wonder of the migration in images, it’s essential to witness it from key vantage points that offer close-up views—and the only way to do that is through an exclusive stay in a remotely situated mobile camp like ours.
ITINERARY
Day 1 Arrive Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)
Arrive into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Your guide will meet you at the airport and escort you to tonight’s lodge in Arusha.
Days 2-3 Serengeti Nature Park
Depart after breakfast on a scenic flight to the eastern Serengeti. There you’ll continue your journey into the remote wilderness of Tanzania by heading to a private nature refuge, an exclusive area for Thomson guests. Its unique geography, and its location outside Serengeti Park, makes it a perfect destination for discerning guests who wish to explore uncrowded and pristine lands – you’ll hear the roar of wildlife in the distance, instead of the hum of vehicles.
Days 4-6
Serengeti National Park
Next stop: Serengeti National Park, home to thousands of hoofed animals and some of the best wildlife viewing that Africa has to offer. Here you’ll catch the thundering herds move across the plains while trying to elude the big cat predators. This sanctuary will give you a glimpse into “the world as it was in the beginning.”
Join an optional hot air balloon ride to take in sweeping views of the Serengeti from above. NOTE: advanced reservations and additional fees apply.
Days 7-8
Ngorongoro Crater
Make your way from the Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater, a geological marvel boasting several vegetation zones from lakes to forest to savannah. Home to about 30,000 animals, you will have a front row seat to observe some of the densest wildlife concentrations on earth during your wildlife viewing drive on Ngorongoro Crater's floor.
Day 9
Empakaai Crater
This morning, travel to Empakaai Crater and hike down onto its floor to explore the shores of its flamingo-lined lake. With no roads and no tourists, and you'll be enthralled by this quiet, magical place. Return to the rim in a rigorous ascent which promises stunning panoramic views.
Days 10-11
Great Rift Valley / Lake Natron
Take a step back in time today during this full day of hiking through the remote and historic Maasailand. Your Maasai guide will lead you down into the Rift Valley where few travelers have ventured. Take a dip in crystal clear pools formed under a group of waterfalls, hike up to the waterfall source to experience the falls from a different perspective, and explore the salt-crushed, moonlike landscapes of the shore of Lake Natron. You’ll see swaths of pink in the lake, as it’s the world’s most important flamingo breeding ground.
Day 12 Great Rift Valley to Arusha / Return to North America
Drive to Arusha, where you’ll enjoy a farewell lunch at River House, a community-based nonprofit organization. After lunch, visit the adjoining arts center to see the craftsmanship of local disabled artisans, whose training is funded by River House. Relax in a day room before your flight home.
